Life at home

What's for dinner? Searching for answers and coming close to solving one of the most pervasive issue of our adult life... So far.
It began with an extensive Pinterest search and a series of Crockpot and meal planning failures. Then along came Hello Fresh. Our deliveries have come every Saturday for the past few months and I couldn't be happier with it. Ive never been awesome in the kitchen, but HF has given me the Confidence to find my inner chef. We aren't awesome at trying new things, but HF has helped us enjoy sweet potatoes, vinaigrettes, and feta cheese. We are eating well and I've come to look forward to the half hour I get to spend in the kitchen while the hubs plays with the kids, relaxes, and tells me about his day at work. Without ever agreeing to make this sacred 'mommy is making dinner time' that's what it has become and I have Hello Fresh to thank for it.
But with all this love that I have for HF, I think our time together may be coming to an end soon. At about $10 a plate, it isn't terribly expensive, but it isn't cheap by any means. It was a luxury that I was definitely willing to pay for. I even got at least three friends to try it out. Yet, I feel that I am ready to take on more. I have subscribed to Real Simple's Weekly Meal plan and will be comparing both the cost and the experience to Hello Fresh for the next month or so.

At $10 for a year's worth of recipes and shopping lists,  it is very different than HF weekly. Of course, this doesn't account for food and shipping, and the time spent shopping.  I will be emailed 5 recipes every Friday, along with a complete shopping list. Each meal serves 4 (our Hello Fresh subscription was for three meals, two servings each) so my plan is to have leftovers for work the next day. Lunches have been a bit of a hot mess since I've been on maternity leave :/

Tech Tip Tuesday

Google Draw... need I say more.

Not only can students use this great tool to create graphics, it has turned out to be a beginner's best friend. I am by no means an expert in graphic design, but I also wanted my blog to have a personal touch that was unique to me.

I was able to create my blog header (and most of my buttons and my 'later days' signature) in Google Draw fairly easily.

In days past (I'm talking MySpace html!) I would have to upload photos to a hosting site (ie. Photobucket) so that I could use the url to jazz up my MySpace profile.... I know.... 2003 :D

In any case, having a url for any image is key when working with HTML. This little bit of coding isn't too terribly difficult via Blogger, as they have their fabulous HTML gadget.

Simply create your image in Google Draw.
Then click FILE > Publish to the web and you're done, you have a URL for your image! Super fast and, because I am sharing the URL, any changes I make to the drawing automatically appear anywhere the image has been placed.

PS. I've always used the THIS site to teach myself some basic HTMLing
